I would probably prefer Shardul over Bhuvneshwar for New Zealand clash: VVS Laxman
India is all set to play its next clash of T20 World Cup 2021 against New Zealand in Dubai. The game stands to be very crucial for India as they are coming out of a horrible defeat against Pakistan in their campaign opener. A lot of India’s weak areas got exposed in the game against men in green and one of them was depth in the batting order. Opening up on the same issue, former India batter VVS Laxman has called out for Shardul Thakur’s inclusion in place of Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Laxman added that Shardul should be roped in the New Zealand clash as he can give runs with the bat and can add a touch of balance to the team. It was also seen that Bhuvneshwar has been touching a rough patch since IPL 2021 and this is why experts are preferring the option of Thakur over him.
Shardul Thakur is a wicket-taking option too: VVS Laxman
“I would go for Shardul Thakur because Shardul can give runs with the bat, and he’s a wicket-taking option. It also increases the depth in the batting lineup. So, I would definitely go with Shardul ahead of Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar). He is an experienced bowler, but if you think about the balance and the combination of the playing eleven, I would probably prefer Shardul over Bhuvi,” said VVS Laxman on Star Sports show Game Plan ahead of the India vs New Zealand clash.
Talking in the line of the same events, Sanjay Bangar opened on why Ravi Ashwin should be on India’s side which will play against New Zealand. Bangar stated that Chakravarthy carries a little less international experience and for a game of this stature, Ashwin would be the right pick.
“Varun Chakravarthy’s recent performances in UAE. He was very effective at Sharjah, but not in Dubai – where this game will be played. Taking into account the importance of the game, the number of matches played by Varun Chakravarthy is a little less, and his international experience is a little less. For a game of this significance, you would definitely want somebody with temperament and experience. So, in my opinion, Ravichandran Ashwin may get the nod in place of Varun Chakravarthy,” said Sanjay Bangar.
