T20 WC 2021: WI vs BAN Preview – A virtual knock-out as West Indies, Bangladesh clash

West Indies and Bangladesh will lock horns in the 23rd match of the ongoing T20 World Cup in Sharjah. The defending champions aren’t enjoying the best of times in the mega event this time around. West Indies batters have struggled to come to terms with the conditions in the UAE and have simply not put enough runs on the board. They have lost their previous games to England and South Africa. This is the last chance for them to stay alive in the tournament.

The situation for Bangladesh is no different as they will also play to stay alive in the tournament. The Mahmudullah-led side lost their first two matches to Sri Lanka and England and the task gets tougher for them in a must-win game. The surface in Sharjah should give them some hope but small ground might well end up favouring the West Indies hitters.

Team News

West Indies

West Indies suffered yet another injury blow with Obed McCoy getting ruled out of the World Cup. Former skipper Jason Holder has replaced him and he might well end up playing in the XI. Holder did well for SRH in the IPL and his all-round prowess might bring the much-needed calming influence to the Caribbean batting line-up as well. Either Hetmyer or Simmons might make way for Holder. Roston Chase is also a strong contender to replace Simmons at the top.

Bangladesh

Liton Das has continued to disappoint in the T20 World Cup despite getting the backing from the management. He could make way for Soumya Sarkar at the top of the order while the newbie Shoriful Islam might miss out for the pace of Taskin Ahmed.
