Dravid will come with a blueprint for Indian cricket for the next 5 or 10 years: Aakash Chopra

The former India cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra has opened up on the likely appointment of Rahul Dravid as team India’s head coach. On Tuesday (October 26), Dravid formally applied for the high-profile post. With him in the race, the BCCI is unlikely to look past him. Thus, he is more likely to replace Ravi Shastri whose tenure with the team ends post the T20 World Cup 2021.

The BCCI had earlier stated that it is willing to rope in an Indian coach for the team. According to Chopra, Dravid will not join the team for the short period. He feels that the former India great will bring in a process and will come with a blueprint for Indian cricket.

So, what can Rahul Dravid do? I think he’ll bring a process. See, the Indian team is already very successful, it’s not like they are not doing well. You are defeating Australia in Australia, you have the ability to defeat England in England, you are capable of becoming World Champions, you are at the top of the Test rankings for the last five years.

“With Rahul Dravid, I see a blueprint for the next five years. He’s not going to come with a short-term vision but he’ll come with a blueprint for Indian cricket for the next five or ten years,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

It’s a race where no other coach can win: Aakash Chopra

Rahul Dravid is renowned for his work for the India A and U19 teams. He is known for guiding the budding cricketers to success and also possesses the experience of bringing the best out of the players owing to his stint at the NCA. Chopra thus reckoned that it will be interesting to see him pair with Sharma and Kohli. He added that with Dravid’s presence in the list, no other coach is likely to get a green signal for the post.

We can see a pair of ‘R’ and ‘R’ – Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma – for white-ball cricket and Rahul Dravid with Virat Kohli for Test matches. It’s going to be very interesting. If he has put his name in then… it’s a race where no other coach can win. The moment Rahul Dravid has put his name, others’ applications are already redundant,” Chopra added.
