ENG vs IND: Suspended 5th Test of the series to be played in July 2022

In the latest, England and Wales Cricket Board have announced a revised home series against India next year. As per the initial schedule, the Indian team was set to play three T20Is and as many ODIs in the UK next year. However, the fifth Test match, from the unconcluded series earlier this year, has been added to the fixtures. This addition has also changed the initially announced schedule.

For the unversed, India toured England for a five-match series in August-September this year. However, the fifth Test, which was scheduled to be played in Manchester, was called off due to COVID-19 concerns in the Indian camp. With the series being part of the ongoing World Test Championship, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and ECB were planning to conduct the remaining game in 2022. Subsequently, a change in schedule came out.

We would like to apologise again to fans for the disruption and disappointment: Tom Harrison

“We are very pleased that we have reached an agreement with BCCI to creating a fitting end to what has been a brilliant series so far. I’m very grateful to all the venues involved for the cooperation they’ve shown in allowing us to reschedule this match,” ECB Chief Executive Officer Tom Harrison said in a statement.

Meanwhile, BCCI secretary Jay Shah said is delighted by the fact that the fascinating Test series will get a conclusion next year. “I am delighted that the England-India Test series will now have its rightful conclusion. The four Test matches were riveting, and we needed a fitting finale,” he said.
