T20 WC 2021: Day 5, Stats Review – Shakib’s record, Aaqib Ilyas’ milestone and other stats
A couple of one-sided victories were recorded on Day 5 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. While Bangladesh thumped Papua New Guinea by 84 runs to secure a place in the Super 12, Scotland defeated Oman by eight wickets to top their group in the preliminary round. Hence, they also went through to the next stage alongside Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Now, only one place in the Super 12 is up for grabs.
Meanwhile, here are the important stats and numbers from the 9th and 10th match of ICC T20 World Cup 2021:
11 – Bangladesh now have 11 wins in T20Is this year, the joint-most for any team. South Africa also have also many victories.
84 – Bangladesh recorded their biggest wins in T20Is in terms of runs, 84. Their previous highest was a 71-run victory against Ireland in 2014.
6 – Bangladesh recorded the sixth-biggest win in the T20 World Cups in terms of runs.
4 – Shakib Al Hasan now has 9 Player-of-the-Match awards in T20Is, the joint fourth-most for any player.
3 – Shakib now also has the most Player of the Match awards by a Bangladesh player in T20 World Cups (3). He previously shared the record with Tamim Iqbal (2).
3 – Shakib registered his third-best figures in T20Is, 4/9.
2 – Shakib also recorded the second-best figures by a Bangladesh bowler in T20 World Cups. Mustafizur Rahman, having taken 5/22 against New Zealand in 2016, tops the list.
6 – This was the sixth instance of Shakib taking four or more wickets in a T20I innings, the joint-most for any player. Only Umar Gul has taken four or more wickets as many times in T20Is.
39 – Shakib also equalled Shahid Afridi’s tally of most wickets in T20 World Cups (39).
500 – Aqib Ilyas completed 500 runs in T20 internationals.
50 – Richie Berrington completed 50 sixes in T20I cricket.
