Brett Lee backs David Warner to perform well in T20 World Cup
The T20 World Cup is on with its Qualifiers stage and cricketing giants are raring to do give in their best in the Super 12 stage. Ahead of the high-profile event, former Australian bowler, Brett Lee has opened up on ace Australia batter David Warner and the lean patch he had in IPL 2021 with SRH. However, Lee totally condemned the harsh treatment he was given by the Orange Army.
Warner was removed from the captaincy role in the Indian leg of IPL 2021 and Kane Williamson was given charge of the team. However, this wasn’t all as the batter was later removed from the playing XI. SRH finished at the last slot in IPL 2021 and Warner wasn’t even seen on the venue in their last league games. But, the former speedster has backed him to perform well in the T20 WC.
“But this Australian side is loaded with talent and for me, the key is David Warner. I would like to say he is saving the runs for the games that count after his IPL form! He was really harshly dealt with there and it may have knocked some confidence out of him but he thrives on the big stage. Everything should be rosy for him here, class is permanent,” wrote Lee in a column for ICC.
We have not had a lot of success in this format: Brett Lee
Australia are yet to win the T20 WC but have five world titles in the 50-over format. Talking on Australia’s rough form in the shortest format of the game, Lee added that they have a side that can change things for now. However, things won’t be easy for them given the bench strength of teams like India, New Zealand, and England.
“We have not had a lot of success in this format – it is time we changed it and we do have a side that can take it all the way. It obviously won’t be easy, especially when you look at how strong teams like England, India and New Zealand are,” Lee added.
