T20 World Cup 2021: Major records that may get broken in the tournament

The ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is underway and fans can’t keep calm. This year’s gala tournament is taking place in UAE and Oman with as many as 16 teams contesting for the prestigious title. Notably, this is the seventh edition of the T20 World Cup.

The past six editions of the T20 World Cup have entertained the fans thoroughly. While the likes of Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle unleashed their batting blitzes, Umar Gul and Lasith Malinga did the talking with the ball in hand. In the process, a lot of prominent records were made and broken in the previous T20 World Cups.

Needless to mention, the same might happen in this year’s competition as well. After all, some finest T20 cricketers from different parts will be in action. 1. Rashid Khan can become the fastest bowler to complete 100 T20I wickets. While the leg-spinner has taken 95 wickets in 51 games, Lasith Malinga, the current fastest to 100 T20I wickets, got to the landmark in 76 matches.

2. Dwayne Bravo (29) can break Tillakaratne Dilshan’s (35) record of playing most matches in the T20 World Cup.

3. Quinton de Kock (11) can go past MS Dhoni (21) to become the wicket-keeper with the most catches in T20 World Cup.

4. Chris Gayle (920) can surpass Mahela Jayawardene (1016) to become the highest run-scorer in T20 World Cups.

5. Virat Kohli (777) can also get the 1000-run landmark. There’s also a possibility of him surpassing Gayle and Jayawardene.

6. Rohit Sharma (28) could overtake Yuvraj Singh (31) and MS Dhoni (33) to become India’s most capped players in the tournament.

7. Shakib Al Hasan (35) can break Shahid Afridi’s record of most T20 WC wickets (39).
