Faf du Plessis

The South African batter has been in exceptional form for Chennai Super Kings. He has been instrumental in providing the team with flying starts. Alongside the young Ruturaj Gaikwad, Faf chipped in crucial runs for the side.

He stood tall for the team in the finals as well, playing belligerent innings of 86 runs wherein he hit as many as seven fours and three sixes. He was the torchbearer of CSK’s batting, scoring 633 runs at an average of 45.21 in the tournament. The former Proteas skipper was one of the key players that weren’t included in the squad for the mega event.

Sunil Narine

Narine was captain Eoin Morgan’s trump card especially in the second half of the tournament. He made valuable contributions to the side with both the bat and the ball. The spinner chimed with crucial wickets in the Eliminator against RCB to enable KKR to book their ticket for the finals.

He also played a few quick-fire knocks for the side to put the team in a commanding position. In the tournament, he chipped in 16 wickets at a healthy economy rate of 6.44. West Indies captain Kieron Pollard earlier confirmed that despite Narine’s golden form, there wouldn’t be any tweaks in the squad for the high-profile clash.

Mayank Agarwal

One name that has consistently performed for the Punjab Kings is that of Mayank Agarwal. His contributions at the top order have been crucial for the side. He has been the backbone of the team over the years and has consistently scored runs in the tournament. Even this edition of the IPL saw Agarwal among the runs.

In this season of the IPL as well he gathered important runs for the side, dominating the opposition. This year, he smashed 441 runs at an average of 40.1 and a strike rate of 140.4. Even with his blistering form in the tournament, the batter wouldn’t be seen in the marquee event.

Shikhar Dhawan

The other player whose omission from the World Cup squad stunned the cricketing fraternity is Shikhar Dhawan. The southpaw was the leading run-scorer of the tournament when the IPL had paused. Despite his heroics with the bat, he couldn’t make the cut.

Opening the innings for the Delhi Capitals, Dhawan displayed his sheer flair to take on the toughest of the bowlers in the league. From 16 matches, he scored 587 runs at an average of 39.13 and a strike rate of 124.62. He played both the pacers and spinners in his typically aggressive fashion to exude a fine form with the willow.

Yuzvendra Chahal

The spinner experienced a lean patch in international cricket lately and also had a comparatively dismaying Indian leg of the IPL. However, in the second half of the tournament Chahal bounced back stronger to display his fiefdom. He clinched wickets at crunch moments for RCB and put the team in the driver’s seat. He finished the season with 18 wickets under his sleeves. His omission from India’s squad for the T20 World Cup came in as a surprise for the cricketing fraternity.
