Kyle Coetzer reveals Chris Greaves’ struggle before making it big
In the second match of the T20 World Cup 2021, Scotland had locked horns with Bangladesh. The former posted the target of 141 for Bangladesh and later successfully defended it to win the game by 6 runs. Chris Greaves starred for the team in their victory. He played a belligerent innings of 45 runs off 28 balls and later also picked up two pivotal wickets of Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim.
These strides by the associate nations play a very crucial role in the globalization of the sport. However, as the journey of these nations towards success is a gruelling one, similar is the story of their players as well. To reach this feat, Greaves had to do a lot of sacrifices.
The Player of the Match against Bangladesh once delivered parcels for Amazon. The Scotland skipper, Kyle Coetzer opened up on the journey of his teammate. He pointed that the players of the associate nations strive hard to maintain a balance between their sporting ambitions and their living.
“He has really sacrificed a lot. He was delivering parcels for Amazon not too long ago and now he’s getting player of the match against Bangladesh. They are lesser-known people who had to make many sacrifices to get to where they are today. Greaves isn’t a contracted player in Scotland. He was on the fringes. He put his hand up, worked extremely hard, and put himself in the picture. Going back a month, he wouldn’t even start in one of these games,” he stated as reported by BBC Sport.
I’m just so glad I could contribute what I did: Chris Greaves
Scotland was reduced to 53-6 at one point and needed someone to hold the fort for the side. Greaves came to the team’s rescue and put up a spirited all-rounder show at the display. The team thus won the tournament opener against Bangladesh.
“We were in a tough situation. It was unbelievable that I could be that person. To be a part of that is incredible. It was my day, I think. There will be many other days when any one of us in that squad can be a part of it. I’m just so glad I could contribute what I did,” Greaves said.
