IPL 2021: Ten major records created during the season

The 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) witnessed nothing but T20 madness. Chennai Super Kings won their fourth title beating KKR comfortably. Most of the games went right down to the wire with T20 stalwarts unleashing their best over the 22 yards. While several batters entertained fans with their big shots all over the park, many bowlers also made a mark with their scintillating spells.

For the unversed, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had a hard time in conducting IPL 2021. With the COVID-19 virus coming in the pictures, matches were initially scheduled to take place in a few venues across India. However, multiple players contracted the virus as the competition was abruptly suspended in May. The action then resumed on September 19 with encounters being shifted to the UAE. Despite all this hassle, however, some quality brand of cricket was witnessed.

Meanwhile, let’s look at 10 major records made and broken during the course of IPL 2021:

Punjab Kings’ KL Rahul became the first Indian to score over 500 runs in four consecutive seasons. Overall, he’s the second player after David Warner to get the milestone.

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Harshal Patel made the ball talk in IPL 2021. His tally of 32 wickets is most by an uncapped player in a season. Only Dwayne Bravo has taken as many wickets in an IPL season.

RCB skipper Virat Kohli became the first player to play 200 IPL matches for one team.

Purple cap holder Harshal Patel also named an unwanted record. He conceded joint-most runs in an over (37) in IPL history. He shares the record with Prasanth Parameswaran.

Virat Kohli became the first Indian to score 10,000 T20 runs. Overall, he’s the fifth player to get the milestone.

Dwayne Bravo became the first bowler to take 550 wickets in T20 cricket.

KL Rahul became the fastest Indian to accumulate 3000 IPL runs, getting the feat in 80 innings. Overall, he’s only second to Chris Gayle (80 innings) on the list.

At 24 years and six days, Delhi Capitals’ Rishabh Pant became the youngest captain to lead a team in the IPL playoffs.

Sunrisers Hyderabad speedster Umran Malik delivered the fastest ball by an Indian in IPL since 2012, 152.95 KMPH.
