Pakistan players advised to avoid indulging in social media during T20 WC

Pakistan

Pakistani players have been advised to limit their usage on social media during the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2021, which is set to begin in Oman and UAE. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials do not want to take any risk whatsoever and have advised players to stay away from social media to eliminate any possible chance of interaction with bookies.

It is a well-documented fact during any such ICC event or any other big tournament, the chances are high of bookies trying to coax some players into doing some wrong activities. Players are advised well in advance about the ramifications of the fixing and its subsequent ban on playing the sport. Pakistani players were also given a lecture on anti-corruption, which was also translated into their local language Urdu. During the video shown, an example of Gulam Bodi was also discussed as to how he indulged in match-fixing, which ended in a five-year sentence.

Apart from Bodi, many prominent players were involved in fixing which finished their otherwise wonderful cricketing career. Sensing something had to be done to stop fixing ruining the sport, the ICC, as well as individual boards, took efforts in eliminating the threat of match-fixing by upping the security and monitoring during any high profile events. The bookies though have managed to find other ways and are predominantly using social media to get in touch with the players.

Pakistani Players have been told to use iPhone

That is why the Pakistani players have been advised to limit the usage of social media. The players have also been told to only use the social media handles either to post cricketing information or appreciate a player for their performance during the T20 World Cup. The players have also been advised to use an iPhone instead of an Android. Second-hand phones are strictly not allowed as PCB are fearing there might be a leak of information.

The players have also been told to report any suspicious activities during the T20 World Cup. Pakistan are placed in Group B alongside India, New Zealand, and Afghanistan. They will kick off their campaign by playing against India on Sunday (October 24) at the Dubai International Stadium. Pakistan have managed to win the T20 World Cup on one occasion in 2009.
