Picking Harshal Patel for T20 WC might not be a bad idea: Harsha Bhogle

Harshal Patel

After BCCI announced team India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, there were a few surprising omissions. However, the inclusion of a few players also led to discussions among the cricketing fraternity. BCCI is allowed to make changes in the current squad till October 10 and thus India cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle feels that including RCB’s Harshal Patel in the side might be a good idea.

Royal Challengers Bangalore has had an impressive run in IPL 2021. The team had previously struggled with their bowling in the death overs. However, the inclusion of Harshal Patel in the side has ticked a massive box for the Virat Kohli-led side. The pacer has been exceptional for the team throughout the league.

Patel has scalped 29 wickets in 13 matches so far and has already surpassed Jasprit Bumrah’s record of most wickets by an Indian bowler in a single season of the IPL. The RCB speedster is currently the highest wicket-taker of the tournament and has displayed his sheer flair which has fetched him praises from all around the cricketing world.

Ahead of the start of the World Cup, the former BCCI selection committee chief MSK Prasad had said that team India is short of one pacer in the marquee event. There are still speculations on whether Hardik Pandya will bowl his quota of overs. In such a scenario, Bhogle feels that Patel can be a good pick for India.

Considering the fact, that the high-profile event is going to be staged at the same venues where the IPL is held, it further fancies Patel’s chances of doing well if he makes the cut. Bhogle took it to his official Twitter account to express his opinions on the same.

“If the pitches at the #ICCT20WorldCup2021 are going to be similar to these, picking Harshal Patel might not be a bad idea. (Changes allowed till October 10!). A horses-for-courses practical selection. What do you guys think?” Bhogle wrote.

The T20 World Cup 2021 is all set to commence from October 17 with the final scheduled to be played on November 14.
