Sehwag opines on Chahal’s ommision from the T20 WC squad
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) finally arrested their two-match losing streak and won by a convincing margin of 54 runs against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The cornerstone of victory was leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who picked up three wickets and restricted the mighty MI batting lineup to just 111. Impressed by his performance, former India cricketer Virender Sehwag called him a street-smart player and asset to the team.
But Sehwag has also questioned the selectors for his omission from the upcoming T20 World Cup. Interestingly, the BCCI selection panel has opted to with Ravi Ashwin, Axar Patel, Rahul Chahar, and Varun Chakravarthy as the spinners for the global event. The reason given by the selectors were they wanted someone who can bowl fast leg-spin.
The cricketer-turned expert has asked the selectors to explain why the India and RCB leg-spinner is not in the 15-member squad selected for the T20 World Cup.
“Chahal was bowling well in the past also. I can’t fathom why he was omitted from the T20 World Cup squad. The selectors should explain. It’s not like Rahul Chahar bowled extraordinarily in Sri Lanka. The way Chahal is bowling, he will be an asset for any side in T20 cricket,” Sehwag said to Cricbuzz.
Apart from Chahal, even the purple-cap holder Harshal Patel bowled well for RCB and made it memorable by picking up a hat-trick. Sehwag also lauded the right-hand pacer’s performance. The former India opener also pointed out the turning point of the match and told that it was Chahal’s and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell’s spell in the middle-overs which turned the game in RCB’s favor.
Harshal Patel was spectacular and Yuzvendra Chahal showed why he is such a smart cricketer. Graet win for @RCBTweets . Still see India tweaking the final 15 for the World Cup. #RCBvMI

“He knows how to bowl in his format, how to take wickets. The game was set up today by (Glenn) Maxwell and (Yuzvendra) Chahal. They took wickets in the middle orders which led to a turnaround,” said Sehwag.
Squad for the T20 World Cup can be altered till October 10
The ICC has given teams time till October 10 to change the squad or add some players. Chahal comes with a vast amount of experience as he has played 49 T20I matches and picked up 63 wickets. Also, he has done well for RCB this season and it remains to be seen if the selectors have a change of heart.
