IPL 2021: Sanju Samson fined for slow over rate in PBKS vs RR match
Rajasthan Royals’ captain Sanju Samson has been fined for maintaining a slow over rate in the match against Punjab Kings on Tuesday, September 21 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The game went right down to the wire and the Royals held their nerve to win by two runs. Moreover, the Royals moved to the fifth position in the points table below defending champions Mumbai Indians.
As far as Samson is concerned, he was fined INR 12 lakhs since it was his first offence under the Indian Premier League’s Code of Conduct. In case of a second offence, the captain faces a fine of INR 24 lakhs. Other members of the team are fined 25 per cent of their match fees in the second case.
If the team is involved in a third offence, then the captain gets banned for one match and gets fined INR 30 lakhs. The match on Tuesday started at 7:30 PM IST and took more than four hours to finish. Samson and the Royals are next scheduled to face Delhi Capitals on September 25.
Somewhere we had that fight left, says Sanju Samson
Samson, in the meantime, said that the Royals didn’t throw in the towel despite the Kings needing 10 runs to win off 15 balls with eight wickets in hand. In the penultimate over, Bangladesh’s Mustafizur Rahman gave away only four runs to keep RR in the game.
In the final over, Kartik Tyagi came to the party and conceded only one run. Moreover, he picked up the wickets of Nicholas Pooran and Deepak Hooda to deny the Kings a win. Samson was delighted after Tyagi was able to nail the wide Yorkers with relative ease.
“Somewhere we had that fight left. We knew we had some special bowlers. Kept Mustafizur’s overs for the end. Tyagi was confident with his yorkers, especially wide yorkers. Executed them well against the new batters. And we had top fielding plans for every batter, we have planned till the last batter,” Samson said
“We were happy with our score, on this wicket that was a good score. We are a better bowling/fielding team too. We could’ve won the game early if there weren’t drops early on,” Samson was quoted as saying.
