IPL 2021: Top five run-getters from the first league phase in India

The IPL 2021 resumes from 19th September. A total of 29 matches had been played when the tournament was suspended due to the rise of COVID-19 cases in the team camps. As we look forward to the live-action from the UAE this time, here are the top five run-getters of the IPL 2021 phase which was played in India.

5. Sanju Samson – 277 runs

Samson started the 2021 season with a bang as he smashed 119 runs against Punjab in Rajasthan’s maiden match of the tournament. While his century resulted in a losing cause, he was praised for his audacious batting. His form, however, went up and down as he failed to go past fifty in the next six innings.

4. Prithvi Shaw – 308 runs

The Delhi Capitals opener exhibited great form at the top. His 308 runs in eight innings have come at an astounding strike rate of 166.49. He has already bagged two Player of the Match Awards in the tournament thus far. His highest score 82 came against KKR in a winning chase.

3. Faf du Plessis – 320 runs

The South African batsman is not a part of the national T20I squad anymore but he scored plenty of runs in IPL 2021. His highest score in this edition of 95 not out off 60 balls came against KKR and resulted in a victory for the Men in Yellow. With three more half-centuries to his name, he has been a solid opener for CSK.

2. KL Rahul – 331 runs

Punjab captain KL Rahul will be a strong contender for the Orange Cap. Opening the innings for his side, he has been very stable and has shown immaculate stability. In 2021 IPL, he already has registered two scores of 91. He has scored a total of four fifties thus far. His strike rate is also around 136 which is often scrutinised.

1. Shikhar Dhawan – 380 runs

While the left-hander has fallen out of favour in the T20I format, he is making a statement with his performance in the IPL. Batting with aggressive Shaw at the other end, Dhawan has been able to put up a solid show at the other end. Batting through the innings, he has allowed other Delhi Capitals’ batsmen to express themselves. He has scored three fifties in eight innings thus far.
