David Wiese gets picked in Namibia’s T20 World Cup 2021 squad
The T20 World Cup 2021 is all set to commence on October 17 in the UAE. As all the cricketing nations are announcing their squad for the marquee event, there has been the latest development around Namibia’s squad. Former South Africa all-rounder David Wiese has been included in Namibia’s squad for T20 World Cup and will be playing his second T20 WC after five years.
Wiese played his first T20 WC for South Africa in 2016 and has qualified for Namibia on the basis of descent as his father is from the same nation. It has to be noted that former Protea last played an international game in 2016 before signing a Kolpak deal with Sussex in 2017. The interesting part of the Namibia group is that they have South Africa-born Pierre de Bruyn as their Head Coach and also Morne Morkel in their management.
Namibia to play for the first time in T20 World Cup 2021
The team is all set to enter the tournament without the services of their opener JP Kotze and spinner Zhivago Groenewald as they retired from international cricket in 2019 after being part of the 2019 World Cup qualifiers. It will be Namibia’s first attempt in the T20 World Cup after they dominated Oman in Dubai during October 2019 in qualifiers’ playoffs. They would up in their first match against Sri Lanka on October 18. They will rub shoulders with Netherlands and Ireland in Group A of the first round ahead of facing Lanka. Two teams each from each group in the first round will be eligible to move into the Super-12 stage.
The T20 World Cup is all set to get underway on October 17 and all the cricketing giants will be starting their journey in the Super-12 stage. It remains to be seen if any less-known team will be able to make a mark in the high-profile tournament in the UAE.
