Three bowlers with most Test wickets at home

Muttiah Muralitharan

There are several bowlers across the world who tend to make their names shine at the international level. While some of the bowlers have turned out to be extremely successful on away soil, some have gone on to create rich records on their home grounds in front of their people. Muttiah Muralidaran, Shane Warne, Anil Kumble, James Anderson etc names come up when talk around most successful bowlers go on. Let’s take a look at three bowlers who have most no of Test wickets at their home.

Anil Kumble (350)

Former India ace spinner Anil Kumble is regarded as India’s most successful bowler in the Tests so far. He was earlier on the third spot in the list of highest wicket-takers across the world in Tests but England’s James Anderson went past him. He is also the only bowler on this list to have clinched 10 wickets in one innings of the Test. He has 619 wickets under his belt and out of all these, 350 have come in India. During his last Test against Australia, he picked three wickets to complete his 350 scalps at home.

James Anderson (402)

England’s ace James Anderson is the only name in the list who is still in action and he also happens to be the only pacer on this list. The most extraordinary thing about Anderson is that he is still going strong at the age of 39 and continues to maintain his swing. Across the highest wicket-takers in the world in the purest format of the game, he stands to be the only pacer and stands at no.3 after breaching Anil Kumble’s record recently. Out of his total 631 wickets in Tests, 401 have come on English soil.

Muttiah Muralitharan (493)

If there stands to be one bowler who is undoubtedly rated as the most successful bowler of all time, he has to be Sri Lankan ace Muralidaran. He is the only bowler to have 800 Test wickets to his name, the highest in cricket history to date. He is also the fastest one to reach to his 400, 500, 600, and 700 wickets. It has to be noted that he held the number one spot in ICC‘s player ranking for a record 1711 days and out of his total 800 wickets, his 493 Test wickets have come up at home only.
