ENG vs IND: Jasprit Bumrah opens up on Team India’s victory in the fourth Test match
The Virat Kohli-led Indian side put up a brilliant show at The Oval where they triumphed over England by 157 runs on September 06 to take an unassailable 2-1 lead in the five-match Test series. With all three results looking possible on the final day, the match was an enthralling contest. Team India’s bowlers however yet again stood out for the team and displayed their flair. The spearhead of India’s pace bowling unit, Jasprit Bumrah opened up about the victory and the approach of the team.
Jasprit Bumrah was one of the architects of Team India’s victory in the fourth Test match. The speedster chimed into the scenario and provided crucial breakthroughs to the team. Securing the wickets of Ollie Pope and Jonny Bairstow, he fashioned India’s win. Bumrah pointed that the success of the team lies behind their positive mindset.
“We focus on the good things. We want to focus on controllable things and we as a team are a bunch of individuals who are very happy and fun-loving people, not always trying to find needles in all the things,” Bumrah said during the virtual press conference as reported by TOI.
Our job was to not let the game slip away: Jasprit Bumrah
With the two important wickets, Bumrah shifted the pendulum to India’s favor in the post-lunch session on the final day of the fourth Test match. Bumrah asserted that the team was focused on fighting till the end. The pacer also put forward the thought that the aim of the team was to bowl in the right areas and build pressure on the opposition.
“In Test cricket, nothing is easy. Even though it was a very good wicket, you have to bowl in the right areas and that’s the message you want to communicate. We had decided, even if the wicket is on the flatter side, we have to create pressure for the longest time. We created a lot of pressure in the first hour and we realized that it was a flat wicket and but our job was to not let the game slip away and we are happy to do that,” Bumrah added.
The IPL and T20 World Cup is on cards. Bumrah is a vital part of both his IPL franchise and team India. A lot of hopes will be pinned on him to help the teams make an impact in the tournaments. The Indian pacer is however not thinking ahead of time and wants to focus on the moment.
“I am not thinking too far ahead about the IPL or World Cup because then mentally you can be tired. My focus is on the present, concentrating ball by ball and get results in our favour,” Bumrah said.
