Reports: Wanindu Hasaranga pulls out of CPL 2021 owing to national duties
As per reports, Wanindu Hasaranga has pulled out of the Caribbean Premier League 2021 owing to national duties. The leg spinner was roped in by St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots during the player draft that was held in May. Hasaranga who had an impressive season in the LPL in December last year was picked up by the side to go along with the likes of the West Indian Jon-Russ Jaggesar who has quite a few variations under his sleeves.
Hasaranga wouldn’t feature in the CPL as Sri Lanka and South Africa are scheduled to play white-ball series against each other. Earlier, South Africa confirmed their tour to Sri Lanka which includes three ODIs and as many T20Is. All six matches are scheduled to be played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The series would be kick-starting on September two with the third T20I to be played on September 14.
Ahead of the marquee event of the T20 World Cup, it would act as a preparatory series for both sides. “We are delighted to have another tour confirmed for the Proteas men’s team with the ICC T20 World Cup just around the corner. Playing against quality opposition in the sub-continent is the best way for our team to prepare for this event and we are grateful to Sri Lanka Cricket for accommodating us during this time of the year where schedules are highly condensed.” The CSA’s acting CEO Pholetsi Moseki had asserted as reported by ESPN Cricinfo.
Wanindu Hasaranga turned many heads with his recent performances
Hasaranga had looked in splendid form recently and produced some impressive performances for Sri Lanka. He picked up seven wickets in the T20I series against India with 4-9 being his best-registered figures in the series. Many cricket experts have spoken that if the IPL franchises are looking for a replacement of a spinner then Hasaranga can be a good choice.
There were also reports on him replacing Adam Zampa in the RCB for the remainder of the IPL. The second leg of the IPL is all set to resume in the UAE from September 19 with Chennai Super Kings taking on their arch-rivals Mumbai Indians in the first match.
