I asked Dhawan how he prepares himself and his game plans: Dasun Shanaka
Playing cricket or any sport at the highest level demands a lot from the athletes. They need to prepare themselves for every possible situation to outplay the opposition. The inputs from some experienced players always come in handy for the newcomers to shape their game. The Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka thus grabbed some pearls of wisdom from Shikhar Dhawan post the third T20I.
Sri Lanka won the T20I series against India 2-1 on Thursday, July 29. After the match, Shikhar Dhawan took some time out to interact with the Sri Lankan players and Dasun Shanaka extended his gratefulness to the Southpaw for the same. Shanaka pointed the vast experience Dhawan has under his sleeves and stated that his insights would assist them in understanding and taking the game to greater heights.
“Just as we learn from our own senior players it is important that we also learn from the experience from Indian players as well. I was really grateful to Shikhar for giving me this opportunity. Shikhar is a player who has experience of over ten years playing international cricket.
“I asked him how he prepares himself and what was his game planning and situation handling which are very important. They (Indian players) even have mastered the breathing patterns. I personally thought by talking to a player like Shikhar we would be able to get a good understanding about promoting the game.” Shanaka said while speaking to media as reported by News18.
Indian players are very positive when they are on the field: Dasun Shanaka
In any crunch moments, it becomes pivotal that the players are in a positive state of mind. More often than not these things help in changing the fortunes of the game. The coach and the management have a crucial role to play in it. Considering this, Shanaka opened up on the approach of the Indian players on the field and asserted that the side also spoke to Rahul Dravid after the victory.
The Sri Lankan skipper also thanked the BCCI for agreeing to play the series amidst the circumstances and extended his special thanks to Shikhar Dhawan and Rahul Dravid. Dhawan too opened up about the series at the presentation and touched upon the conversation he had with the opposition players.
“Both the teams played in great spirit and it was beautiful we were both quite competitive on the field and the respect was there and Sri Lankan boys and the captain wanted to know what my process and how I take things in my game and I was sharing whatever I have gained during the past few years. That’s the way I do it and that’s the process and I hoped they enjoyed it,” Dhawan said.
