Every tournament I play is a chance to remind I’m still a quality player: Alex Hales

England opening batter Alex Hales was in news recently for yet again being ignored by the selectors for the team’s recently concluded limited-overs series against Pakistan. The England team was hit by the COVID-19, just before the start of the series and the first-choice players had to miss the ODI series. Many expected Hales to get a look in but he was again ignored.

But that has not deterred the confidence of the hard-hitting batter as he continued his good form and took Trent Rockets over the line by scoring a brisk 40 against Northern Superchargers. Chasing a steep target of 133 in The Hundred, Hales went about his business in a calm and composed manner and made sure he remains right till the end to finish off the run-chase.

There is no doubting the quality of Hales as he has proved himself in various franchise leagues all over the world since being out of the England team for the past three years. The knock he played for Rickets too was a reminder of dangerous a player he can be with the bat in hand.

It was a scrappy, ugly win. I guess that’s a sign of a good team because we had our backs to the wall a lot throughout that game and, we still managed to come out on top. I always felt that if I was in at the end, we’d have a chance. It was a fairly difficult pitch to bat on, not your typical Trent Bridge pitch, but you can always catch up at the end there, with the fast-scoring outfield and smallish boundaries. I just tried to hang in there and take it as deep as I could,” Alex Hales was quoted as saying by cricket.com.

Alex Hales on still being the best player wherever he performs

When quizzed further on the special knock he played against the Superchargers, the England batter said that it was a reminder of how good a player he is.“Every tournament I play is always a chance for me to keep reminding people I’m still an international quality player. I think the last two years I’ve done that.”

“Every tournament I’ve gone to, I’ve performed well and shown people that I’m still that level of a cricketer, so that’s all I can keep doing. If that chance comes along again, then great.”
