Kieron Pollard slams Barbados pitch post ODI series loss against Australia

WI vs AUS

West Indies were recently rubbing shoulders with Australia on their home soil in a series consisting of T20Is and ODIs. The home team thrashed the Kangaroos 4-1 in the T20Is but the visitors bounced back in the ODIs and took away the series 2-1. After suffering the 3rd ODI loss in Barbados, WI skipper Kieron Pollard didn’t seem happy at all and slammed the pitch too.

In the final ODI game, Pollard and his men won the toss and decided to show up with the willow first. However, Australian bowlers came up in the mood of destruction and ended their show on merely 152 runs in 45.1 overs. The guest side chased down the total in 31 overs only and won the game by six wickets where Matthew Wade shined with an unbeaten half-century. However, after the match, Pollard didn’t leave any chance to blame the pitch.

I think both teams struggled on the pitch: Kieron Pollard

“Coming here to Barbados, I think both teams struggled on the pitch and I think that’s unacceptable for international cricket. We’re not going to make excuses. We accept that we batted badly but I don’t think the scores that we have gotten in this three-match series, for two top international teams, I think that’s very embarrassing for us as a people. Coming from St Lucia to this, I think it’s absolutely ridiculous,” said Pollard after the match.

Talking about the series, Australia kicked off on a thumping note as they won the opening ODI by massive 133 runs. The second ODI of the series got rescheduled due to the COVID-19 scare in the camp but the home side took away the game by four wickets. When it had to be settled in the decider 3rd ODI, the Australian side left no stone unturned to remain dominant and won it by six wickets.

While Mitchell Starc took three wickets by conceding 43 runs, two wickets each fell under the belts of Ashton Agar and Adam Zampa. Agar was declared as the man of the match for his two wickets and contribution with the bat alongside Wade.
