Sourav Ganguly wishes Indian contingent for Tokyo Olympics
The Indian contingent for the Olympics has reached Tokyo on Sunday 18 July to take part in the global event which will begin on from July 23-August 08. Already top personalities like Sachin Tendulkar, Narendra Modi Virat Kohli, and Mithali Raj have wished the Indian players who will battle it out in the showpiece event. And now Sourav Ganguly too has jumped into the bandwagon and has a motivational message for the top athletes.
The Olympics was set to take place in the year 2020, but to COVID-19 it had to be pushed back by a year. Many players from India could not get to train outdoors due to the nationwide lockdown.
The players had to resort to training indoors and make arrangements on their own to get ready for the challenges ahead. The additional duration of time has given players extra preparation time and also hope to billions of Indians.
Now with only a few days left, Ganguly the BCCI president made sure to post an inspiring video for the Indian athletes on his official Twitter account. Dada wrote, “Good wishes to all the participants at the Tokyo Olympics. It is time to get the results for the years of training and sacrifices. It will happen.”
A total of 228 members are in Tokyo, of which 127 are athletes, who will battle it out in various top sports to win the top honors for the nation. Apart from them, there are support staff and other IOA representatives.

India hoping to perform well in the Tokyo Olympics
India’s best showing in the Olympics came in the year 2012 when the global event was held in London. The last time in 2016, India performed well at the fag end of the event and showed their true potential by sealing a bronze and silver in Wrestling and Badminton respectively.
But the wait for the elusive Gold medal still awaits us and India’s only gold medalist Abhinav Bindra stated, “Never before in our history have we gone into an Olympics starting as absolute favorites.”
All the matches during the Olympics will be played behind closed doors and there won’t be any spectators allowed to watch the match live, due to the COVID-19 threat.
