Know all about latest India aspirant: R Sai Kishore
Born on 6th November 1996 R Sai Kishore is a slow left-arm spinner hailing from Tamil Nadu. He made his List-A debut in the 2016-17 Vijay Hazare Trophy. The 23-year-old belongs to Madipakkam, a small place in Tamil Nadu.
Beginning on a wrong foot
Kishore grabbed the spotlight early in his career for the wrong reasons after he was indulged in a heated argument with N Jagadeesan and India’s veteran spinner R Ashwin during the inaugural edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League. However, putting that behind, he bagged 12 wickets in the season to end up in the list of the top-five wicket-takers.
His toil continued in the next season of the TNPL, where he improved his previous record and bagged 17 wickets to finish as the leading wicket-taker of the edition. Getting picked subsequently for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the youngster made his name known in the domestic circuit, however, he did not find a taker in the IPL.
Tasting success
He was the leading wicket-taker for Tamil Nadu in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy, with 22 dismissals in six matches, while he claimed 12 wickets in six games at an economy rate of 3.86 in the 2019-20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He then trialled with the Mumbai Indians, and also served as a net bowler for Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab. His relentless efforts finally paid off when he was bought by CSK at his base price of INR 20 lakhs in the IPL 2020 auctions.

While Kishore did not get a chance to feature in the league even once, he admits that being with the team has improved his game considerably. Despite not getting a chance in India’s cash-rich league, better came the youngster’s way as he was named one of the five net bowlers when the BCCI announced India’s squad for the limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka that gets underway in July 2021.
“I am very happy to have been picked as net bowler for the tour. I am very much excited and look forward to it. Also, it is a recognition of the hard work and performances in domestic cricket,” Kishore said after getting his maiden national call-up as a net bowler.
“Once I got the call, I think I need to work harder now and the responsibility is greater. Being part of the national squad is a great honour and I can only gain knowledge by being around. I have to be ready when I get the opportunity,” he added.
