Dinesh Chandimal writes to SLC to discuss cricket future
In 2010, Dinesh Chandimal made his debut for Sri Lanka. He was touted to be the next prodigal player to come out of the Island nation which had produced so many good batsmen before him. However, a decade later, some may think he hasn’t become as great a player he was expected to be. In 2021, as Sri Lankan cricket looks at one of its darkest hours, Chandimal has expressed his desire to come and help.
In the past few months, the world of cricket is seeing a much-discussed public spat between the Sri Lankan cricketers and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). There has been a dispute around the annual central contracts with the senior players expressing their disappointment with some clauses. On top of that, Kusal Perera, who was named the ODI and T20I captain is left in the middle without any proper assistance. There is a lack of experience within the team.
In the middle of this, a report on Daily Mirror suggests that Chandimal has written to the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Cricket Committee Aravinda De Silva, requesting a meeting to discuss his future with the national cricket team.
I am certain given the opportunity, I will be able to perform: Dinesh Chandimal
“My performance statistics and my health statistics indicate I am more than capable of performing at the highest level at the moment,” Chandimal said in the letter. “I am certain given the opportunity, I will be able to perform as expected and contribute towards Sri Lanka cricket in a positive manner,” Chandimal said in the letter.
Chandimal was last part of the Sri Lanka team which went for the tour of the West Indies earlier this year. The 31-year-old failed to return with impressive performances and was dropped from the team which went for the tour of England. Since the team has returned to Sri Lanka, there have been some issues as well. There were rumors that Dasun Shanaka might replace Perera as the skipper of the ODI and T20I team, but nothing has been confirmed.
“I would like to discuss my future with Sri Lanka cricket and as this is my profession, at this juncture it is very important for me to make the correct and most informed decisions for my future,” he added.
