Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has opined that the team India will be on top of their game when they take on New Zealand in the final of the ICC World Test Championship. The match is all set to be played at Southampton starting today (18th June). The former Indian skipper said that the qualification to the final of the WTC is a result of hard work which the team has put across two years.

The Indian team has played six series in order to make their way to the final of the inaugural edition of the ICC World Test Championship. Virat Kohli and Co. started their journey in 2019 with a 2-0 away series win against West Indies. After this, India won two home series against South Africa and Bangladesh.

Beyond this, India lost a 2-0 series in New Zealand, before beating Australia 2-1 and sealing the spot in the final with a series win against England at home by a margin of 3-1. Ganguly said that the world has seen India batting till the end in Australia, while also saying that the Indian team is balanced.

The quality of players is fantastic: Sourav Ganguly

“Our team is a very balanced team. They bat till the end as you have seen during the Australian tour. Also, they have a solid team, hopefully, they will play to their potential. The quality of players who are there is fantastic and they have done wonderfully well over the years to come up to this position,” Ganguly said and quoted by Hindustan Times.

India has not won a single ICC event since winning the 2013 Champions Trophy. Since then, the Indian team has found themselves playing quite well but failing in the knockout stages of the tournament. As a matter of fact, India lost their semi-final at the ICC World Cup 2019 against New Zealand.

Ganguly also revealed that he is not aware of the playing combination. However, the BCCI announced the team India squad on the eve of the clash, including two spinner R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant and three pacers Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah.
