Pant wouldn’t want to be known as the second Adam Gilchrist: Sachin Tendulkar

India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has had a phenomenal year with the team. The southpaw has taken his batting to an altogether different level and has given the opposition team a headache with his aggressive style of play. Be it any situation, Pant manages to back his instincts and play his natural game by striking at a good clip too.

If the opposition team takes five wickets too upfront, then also they cannot breathe a sigh of relief, as the maverick batter will play his game by looking to be fearless just like what Adam Gilchrist did for Australia, or more recently what Quinton de Kock is doing for South Africa.

Naturally, Pant’s stupendous rise as an attacking wicketkeeper-batter has made fans compare him with the legendary cricketer Gilchrist or MS Dhoni.

India’s legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar though believes the 23-year-old should not be compared with Gilchrist or any other wicketkeeper-batter. The former opening batter also stated that the southpaw should be allowed to create his own identity, rather than pressurizing him with constant comparisons.

“I don’t like comparing players, each player has his own identity. Rishabh Pant would want to be known as Rishabh Pant and not 2 Adam Gilchrist. Every individual likes his own identity that is what Rishabh would like too.” Tendulkar told, CNN News18.

The southpaw became the current favorite of fans and experts because of his two super knocks in Tests which included an unbeaten 89 at the Gabba Down Under and a blazing 101 against England. Those two knocks have sky-rocketed his stocks and have given confidence to his wicketkeeping too, which has improved a lot.

Tendulkar lauded his efforts and feels he will evolve more when he plays more.

“I would judge him for what he’s able to do as an individual not in comparison of someone (else). The impact that he had last time was tremendous. He will get better and better with time,” Tendulkar added.

Maverick batter Pant will soon be seen in action in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final against New Zealand starting Friday in Southampton.
