To work with Dravid sir again is kind of a cherry on the cake: Arshdeep Singh
India is scheduled to tour Sri Lanka in July 2021 for a limited-overs tour comprising three One Day Internationals and as many T20 Internationals. For the same, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named a 20-member squad including five net bowlers. One of the highlights of the squad is 22-year-old seamer Arshdeep Singh receiving a call-up to the Indian side as a net bowler.
The left-arm pacer was recently involved in an interactive session where he spoke at length regarding his feelings about the Sri Lanka tour and working with former Indian skipper Rahul Dravid. Since Ravi Shastri is with the main Indian squad in the United Kingdom (UK), Dravid will essay the role of the head coach during the Sri Lanka tour while Shikhar Dhawan has been named as the skipper.
It was Rahul sir, who picked me for the U-19 World Cup: Arshdeep Singh
Speaking about his feelings on seeing his name in the Indian squad, Arshdeep revealed that he wasn’t expecting his name and it was a surreal moment for him. Arshdeep previously collaborated with the Indian team during his U-19 days. Speaking about the former Indian skipper, the 22-year-old exclaimed that he has fond memories with Dravid as the veteran has been someone who has appreciated the seamer for his performance at every stage of his cricket career.
“To get a call was surreal. I was not expecting it at all. And to work with Rahul sir again is kind of a cherry on the cake. I have very fond memories of working with Rahul Sir. It is a great opportunity for me to work with him again. He is someone who treats every player in the squad equally. I will try to impress him and will definitely pick up his brain in the Sri Lanka tour,” Arshdeep told IndiaToday.in.
“I have very fond memories of the U-19 World Cup. It was Rahul sir, who picked me for the U-19 World Cup and has always appreciated my performance, whether it is for Punjab in the domestic circuit or the Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL),” said Arshdeep.
