On this day in 2018: Amelia Kerr posts the highest individual score in W-ODIs
Amelia Kerr etched her name into the record books on 13th June 2018. On this day, the New Zealand cricketer scored a marauding 232* for her side, and this is the highest-ever individual score recorded by a batter in the history of Women’s ODI Cricket.
New Zealand won the toss on this historic day and elected to bat first. The foundation for a mammoth total was laid by Kerr and her fellow opener Amy Satterthwaite, as they put on a 113-run opening stand. Satterthwaite scored a brisk 61 off just 45 deliveries.
After the dismissal of Satterthwaite, Kerr continued to plunder the opposition bowling attack. In a knock laced with 31 fours and 2 sixes, the right-hander scored 232* at a strike rate of 160.00 and helped her side post a gargantuan total of 440/3 on the board.
Kerr was also involved in a mammoth 295-run stand with Leigh Kasperek, who scored a 105-ball 113. Ireland tried out as many as 7 bowlers, but none of them could trouble Kerr. In fact, 6 out of the 7 Irish bowlers gave away runs at an economy rate of more than 8.
Ireland produced a disappointing performance in reply. Apart from opener Una Raymond-Hoey, who scored 42 and Shauna Kavanagh, who scored a 60-ball 29, none of the other Irish batters could even cross the 20-run mark. In fact, 8 Ireland batters were dismissed for single-digit scores, as Ireland folded up for just 135, as the Kiwis thrashed their opposition by a whopping margin of 305 runs.
Amelia Kerr was the star performer for the Black Caps with the ball too. She bowled 7 overs, gave away 17 runs and also picked up 5 wickets. Apart from Kerr, Hannah Rowe picked up 2 wickets in the 9 overs that she bowled, and gave away 24 runs.
