Bhuvneshwar Kumar slip into immediate quarantine after showing COVID-19 symptoms
The second wave of the COVID-19 virus has been wreaking havoc in India for the past few weeks. From Bollywood celebrities to politicians, many prominent personalities and celebrities have also contracted the deadly virus. Cricketers are no exception either, as several participants of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 got infected by the coronavirus, resulting in the abrupt suspension of the tournament. Although Indian players haven’t played any cricket after the IPL postponement, it seems like Bhuvneshwar Kumar might have contracted the virus.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) fast bowler and his wife Nupur are reportedly quarantining at their residence in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, as a precautionary measure after feeling symptoms of being infected with COVID-19. The major news comes days after Bhuvneshwar’s mother was admitted to a hospital after testing positive for the widely-spreading virus.

Although it’s still not confirmed whether Bhuvneshwar and Nupur have tested positive for coronavirus, the couple is reportedly undergoing treatment at home. Notably, the fast bowler’s mother tested positive for the disease on May 21, and subsequently, the entire family underwent tests but returned negative. Last month, Bhuvneshwar’s father had passed away at 63 after battling liver cancer.
Meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar is not part of the Indian squad meeting New Zealand in the ICC World Test Championship final and England in a five-match Test series. Hence, he is expected to feature in India’s limited-overs squad touring Sri Lanka in July for three ODIs and as many T20Is. Moreover, he’s a potential candidate alongside Shikhar Dhawan to lead the Men in Blue in the island nation.
However, the COVID-19 infection could force Bhuvneshwar to miss the flight to Sri Lanka. The veteran fast bowler should be aware of the fact and he would want to be fully fit for the white-ball series. Notably, the 31-year-old has been plagued by various injuries that have impacted his international career. Due to the same, he hasn’t played Test cricket since January 2018.
With the ICC T20 World Cup scheduled to take place later this year in India, Bhuvneshwar wouldn’t want to miss any white-ball assignment to impress the selectors. Notably, the SRH star couldn’t enjoy a great campaign in the now-postponed IPL 2021, taking three wickets in five games. Hence, he would be determined to make a thumping comeback.
