I won’t be a surprised if England leaves a little grass on the surface: Sunil Gavaskar

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar reckoned that India shouldn’t be surprised if England prepares green tracks for the Test series between the two nations starting from August 4. Earlier in the year, England toured India for a four-match Test series followed by five T20 Internationals and three One Day Internationals. The England contingent made a big ruckus regarding the pitches and blamed the hosts for dishing out spin-friendly tracks.

Thus, Gavaskar believes that to get back to the Asian nation, England is most likely to prepare tracks with more grass on them. However, the former Indian skipper believes that playing at greener surfaces won’t affect India much as the visitors have some notable personalities in their batting line-up and will put up a good fight.

“Having moaned about the pitches in India earlier this year, it won’t be a surprise if the groundsman in England leaves a little grass on the surface. That is no longer a worry as India has an attack that will also thrive on it and cause problems for the England batsmen too,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for The Telegraph.

The England tour of India ended with the hosts winning in all formats of the game. In the test series, Virat Kohli and Men were outplayed in the first fixture but they scripted an amazing comeback and won the next three games to win by 3-1. Gavaskar backed India to continue their domination in the purest format of the game.

Also, India is scheduled to play against New Zealand in the final of the World Test Championship from June 18 to 22. There is almost six weeks long break for India before the Test series against England. Gavaskar believes that the break will be an added advantage for India as they will be able to adapt to the Indian conditions better.

“The summer in England promises to be the golden summer of Indian cricket. After the WTC finals, there is a gap of about six weeks before the Test series starts against England and that should be enough for the team to play some practice games and tune-up for what England can hurl at them. It is foolish to try and predict the score but it looks like it will be an Indian summer in England,” he wrote.
