There is a threat looming over the ongoing 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as it is learned that the overseas players are nervous regarding their stay in India amidst the medical crisis in the country due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. In addition, the Australian government has decided to ban all flights from India.

The same has left the Australian players and other support staff worried about how they will get back to their home country after the conclusion of IPL 2021. Three Australian players, Andrew Tye (Rajasthan Royals) and the duo of Kane Richardson and Adam Zampa (both Royal Challengers Bangalore) have already pulled out their names for the same reason.

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to ease the pressure on foreign players as they addressed a letter to them stating that the Indian board will do anything and everything possible to ensure that all the players reach their home safely. The letter also revealed that BCCI is keeping a close watch on the situation and is in constant touch with the other boards.

“We understand that many of you are apprehensive about how you will get back home once the tournament concludes… We want to apprise you that you have nothing to worry about,” BCCI COO Hemang Amin said in a letter addressed to the players.

BCCI is monitoring the situation closely

“The BCCI will do everything to ensure that you reach your respective destinations seamlessly. The BCCI is monitoring the situation very closely and is working with the government authorities to make arrangements to get you home once the tournament concludes.

“Be rest assured that the tournament is not over for BCCI till each one of you has reached your home, safe and sound,” he added.

Further in the letter, Amin lauded the players for playing the game of cricket in such tough times and bringing a smile to the faces of millions of citizens in India. He motivated the players saying that they are bringing hope and enjoyment to a lot of people and should be proud of themselves for the same.

“As some of you have said, ‘if we can help distract people from all the troubles of recent times, even if it is for a short while, we have done a great job’. When you all walk out onto the field, you are bringing hope to millions of people who have tuned in.

“If, even for a minute, you can bring a smile on someone’s face, then you have done well. While you are professionals and will play to win, this time you are also playing for something much more important,” he concluded.
