Boundaries galore: Most fours in an IPL innings

It will not be wrong to state that fours and sixes define T20 cricket. The shortest format of the game is all about going all out with the bat to score as many runs as possible. Over the years, one has seen several batsmen taking the bowlers to the cleaners. The cricketing world will definitely be expecting something similar in the upcoming season of the IPL. So, as IPL 2021 knocks on the door, let us take a look at players who have hit the most number of fours in a single IPL inning.

5. Rishabh Pant:

At number five in this list is Delhi Capitals’ Rishabh Pant. Pant struck 15 fours in an innings. He achieved the feat when he scored his first and so far, only IPL century. The knock came against Sunrisers Hyderabad during IPL 2018. Pant scored a sublime 128 off just 63 balls. His innings was also studded with 7 sixes.

*Apart from Pant, Murali Vijay, Glenn Maxwell, Quinton de Kock and Shreyas Iyer have also hit 15 fours in an innings.

4. Michael Lumb:

Former England batsman Michael Lumb is fourth in the list. The former Rajasthan Royals batsman is in this list for hitting 16 fours during his 83-run knock against Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) in IPL 2010. Lumb had also hit two sixes during his knock as he collected 76 of his 83 runs only from boundaries. His 43-ball 83 helped the Royals chase down 154 in just 15 overs.

3. Ajinkya Rahane:

At number three in this list is another Delhi Capitals player – Ajinkya Rahane. The India star features in the list for hitting 16 fours during his 98-run knock against Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) in IPL 2012. The right-handed batsman had also hit a six during the knock, thus collecting 70 runs from only fours and sixes. His fine knock helped Rajasthan Royals win the match by 31 runs.

2. Paul Valthaty:

At number two in this list is Paul Valthaty, who is best known for hitting a century against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2011. Valthaty was not a very common name in the Indian cricket circle at that time but this century made him an instant hit. During the same knock, he achieved the record of hitting the most number of fours in an innings. He scored 120 off 63 balls with the help of 19 fours and 2 sixes. No player has managed to hit more than 19 fours in an IPL innings till date and only one has managed to equal the record.

1. AB de Villiers:

Royal Challengers Bangalore superstar AB de Villiers is at the top of this list for hitting 19 fours during his 133-run knock against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2015. The former South Africa skipper’s knock came off just 59 balls. In addition to hitting 19 fours, he also hit 4 sixes to collect exactly 100 runs from only boundaries. His stunning knock helped RCB score 235/1. And, they restricted the Mumbai Indians to a total of 196/7.
