IPL 2021: Mumbai Indians – All stats you need to know ahead of the tournament

Mumbai Indians have established themselves as the most dominating team in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They have won the title 5 times in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. No team has performed with this consistency as that of Mumbai Indians in IPL. This season as well, they are touted as the favourites to win the trophy.

One of the major reasons for Mumbai’s success is their core set of players which they have maintained in the last 5 to 6 years. With IPL 2021 being the last season before the mega auction next year, Mumbai would hope to gain one more crown in their bag.

Let’s look at all the stats and numbers for Mumbai Indians and its players before the start of IPL 2021:

Can Mumbai make it 3 in 3?

3 – After winning the IPL trophy in 2019 and 2020, MI would now look to make a hat-trick of titles in 2021. If they are successful in doing that, MI will become the first team to achieve the landmark in the league history. Earlier, CSK won the title in two consecutive seasons in 2010 and 2011 but failed to repeat those heroics in IPL 2012 losing to KKR in the final.

Will the first match losing streak end?

8 – Since 2013, Mumbai Indians have lost their first match of the season in each of the 8 years. Even with a bad start to their campaign, they have been successful in performing well in the following games. This year, they will face RCB in the inaugural match, and it would be interesting to see if they can break the losing streak.

Upcoming milestones for Rohit Sharma

213 – MI opener Rohit Sharma has so far smashed 213 sixes in the league. He is only behind MS Dhoni (216) among Indian players in terms of sixes tally. So, it will be a competitive race between the two stalwarts of Indian cricket to gain the top spot in the sixes record.

68 – As a captain, Rohit has 68 wins so far, and he is only behind MS Dhoni (110) and Gautam Gambhir (68). With 4 more victories this season, Rohit will become the second-most successful IPL captain in terms of matches won.

Pandya brothers’ eyes on 50 wickets

50 – Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya will have a chance to complete their 50 wickets in IPL. Krunal has 46 wickets, while Hardik has 42 wickets to his name in the league so far.

Kieron Pollard’s upcoming records

197 – Kieron Pollard has smacked 197 sixes in his IPL career. He needs to hit 3 more sixes to complete 200 maximums, and become the third foreign player after Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers to reach the landmark.

293 – In T20 cricket, Pollard has picked up 293 wickets in 534 matches so far. If he is able to take 7 wickets in IPL 2021, he will become the first player to have a double of 10000 runs and 300 wickets in T20 format.

Quinton de Kock nearing 2000 runs

1959 – MI opener Quinton de Kock has aggregated 1959 runs in 66 IPL innings. This includes 1 century and 14 half-centuries. He needs 41 more runs to complete 2000 IPL runs, and become the fourth Proteas player after AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis and JP Duminy to achieve the milestone.
