Timeline of India’s Test series wins at home since losing to England in 2012
Team India recently won the 4-match test series against England by a margin of 3-1. The hosts made a great comeback after losing the first match of the series in Chennai. This was India’s 13th consecutive series win at home. They last lost at home against England in 2012. Border Gavaskar Trophy, 2013
India defeated Australia by 4-0 at home in 2013 under MS Dhoni’s leadership. This was India’s first clean sweep against Australia in a Test series with more than 1 game. Murali Vijay was the top run-getter for India scoring 430 runs at an average of 61.42. Among bowlers, Ravi Ashwin took the most wickets (28) followed by Ravindra Jadeja (24).
West Indies tour of India, 2013
India decimated West Indies by 2-0 when they toured India. Rohit Sharma who made his debut in the first Test scored 288 runs in the series at an average of 288. Ravi Ashwin was the top wicket-taker for India with 12 scalps in 4 innings. Rohit was awarded player of the series for his superb performance.
Freedom Trophy, 2015-16
South Africa had a challenging time in India when they toured the nation and lost by 3-0 in the 4-match Test series. The series was deathbed for batsmen with tracks being extremely difficult for batting. Ajinkya Rahane top-scored in the series with 266 runs in 6 innings. Indian spin duo of Ashwin and Jadeja enjoyed bowling as they took 31 and 23 wickets respectively.
New Zealand tour of India, 2016-17
India clinched the series 3-0 against the Kiwis in the 2016-17 home series. Cheteshwar Pujara (373 runs) and Ajinkya Rahane (343 runs) were major contributors with the bat for India. Among bowlers, Ravi Ashwin took 27 wickets in 6 innings.

The English team toured India in 2016 with hopes of repeating 2012 magic but it did not go their way. They lost to India 4-0 in the 5-match series with the first match being a draw. Indian captain Virat Kohli displayed incredible form scoring 655 runs at an extraordinary average of 109.16. Spinner Ravi Ashwin was again the top-performing bowler with 28 wickets to his name.
Bangladesh tour of India, 2016-17
Bangladesh toured India for a standalone match in 2017 in which they were defeated by an innings and 208 runs. Virat Kohli smashed a double ton in the first innings for the hosts scoring 204 runs off 246 balls. Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took 6 wickets each.

Australia stunned the Indian team when they won the first Test of the 4-match series in 2017 played at Pune. However, the hosts made a great comeback later on winning the series by 2-1. Steve Smith was the top run-getter of the series with 499 runs from 8 innings. Ravindra Jadeja picked most wickets (25) in the series.

Among the three matches played between India and Sri Lanka in 2017, only one produced a result in which India won by an innings and 239 runs. Virat Kohli aggregated an incredible 610 runs in the series at an average of 152.5. Ravi Ashwin was the highest wicket-taker (12) of the series.
Afghanistan tour of India, 2018
Afghanistan played their inaugural Test match against India at Bengaluru in 2018. They were dismantled in only 2 days by the hosts. Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay scored glorious centuries for India while Ravindra Jadeja (6) took the most wickets.
West Indies tour of India, 2018-19
Prithvi Shaw showed his class when he hit an explosive ton in his debut Test against West Indies. India won this match by 10 wickets and then won the second match by an innings and 272 runs. Prithvi Shaw (273 runs) was awarded player of the series, while Umesh Yadav turned out to be the most successful bowler (11 wickets).

India completely dominated the South African team in the 2019 home series. The hosts clinched the series 3-0 with the last 2 victories being innings wins. Rohit Sharma was given the responsibility to open the innings for the first time in the format and he returned with 529 runs at an average of 132.25. Ravi Ashwin was most successful among bowlers with 15 scalps to his name.
Bangladesh tour of India, 2019-20
India’s last series at home before this England series was against Bangladesh where they won by 2-0. Mayank Agarwal who slammed a double ton was the top run-getter in the series (243 runs). Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma took 12 wickets each to top the bowling charts.
England tour of India, 2021
England toured India on the back of a 2-0 win over Sri Lanka and followed it up with a stunning display in the first Chennai Test thanks to a double-century from Joe Root. But India made a brilliant comeback to win the next three Test matches. Joe Root ended the series as the highest run-getter (368 runs) while Ashwin (32) and Axar Patel (27) shared a whopping 59 wickets between them as India sealed the series 3-1.
