IPL 2021: Five oldest players participating in the tournament
The fourteenth season of the Indian Premier League is all set to begin from 9th April 2021. This year, the inaugural match will be played between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. There will be a lot of veteran superstars and youngsters who will feature for their respective teams in IPL. In this article, we will be discussing the 5 oldest players who will be playing in IPL 2021.
5. Amit Mishra (38 Years, 127 days)
Amit Mishra has picked up 160 wickets in 150 matches in IPL so far. He is the leading wicket-taker among Indian bowlers and spinners in the tournament. He will be playing for Delhi Capitals this year. Last season, Amit Mishra had to pull out from IPL mid-season because of injury. He is going to be a vital cog in his team’s bowling line-up.
4. MS Dhoni (39 Years, 267 days)
MS Dhoni has been part of IPL since the inaugural season. He will be leading the CSK team for the record 12th time this year. Dhoni also holds the record for playing most finals in league history. It is suspected that the 39-year old veteran may be seen for the last time in IPL this season.
3. Harbhajan Singh (40 Years, 271 days)
Harbhajan Singh was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders in the mini-auction for this year’s IPL. He did not play in the last season because of personal reasons. The off-spinner is among the leading wicket-takers in IPL history. It will be interesting to see whether Harbhajan is able to find a place in the playing XI of KKR.
2. Chris Gayle (41 Years, 191 days)
Chris Gayle is considered the greatest ever T20 batsman. He has displayed his class in IPL as well over the years. The veteran batsman will be featuring for Punjab Kings where he is expected to bat at the number 3 spot. Last year, Gayle could not play the initial few matches because of injury concerns but made an immediate impact when he returned.
1. Imran Tahir (42 Years, 4 days)
The South African spinner Imran Tahir is still showing his magic in the T20s and will hope for a stellar season in IPL as well. Tahir will be playing for Chennai Super Kings and will play a key role in their bowling attack. Tahir won the purple cap in IPL 2019 and would like to repeat those heroics again this year.
