After winning the Test and T20I series, India kicked off their campaign against England on a grand note. The Men in Blue won the opening match at the MCA Stadium in Pune by 66 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The second ODI is scheduled to take place on Friday, March 26 at the same venue. In the meantime, Rishabh Pant, their wicketkeeper, was a happy man.

The left-handed Pant played some crucial hands in the Tests and T20Is, but he couldn’t make the cut for the first ODI. However, he didn’t forget to congratulate Team India and therefore uploaded a picture with his team. In the picture, he can also be seen, wearing the jersey of Liverpool, an English club in the English Premier League.

Pant captioned the picture and wrote, “The team that enjoys together, wins together! Great to get together with the team for some fun in the sun.”

Liverpool was pretty impressed with Pant wearing their jersey. The club replied to Pant and wrote, “Loving the shirt.”

After the win on Tuesday, Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper, was over the moon. The fact that India made a comeback after Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy’s 135-run partnership made Kohli proud. He also lauded Shikhar Dhawan and was relieved after KL Rahul got back amongst the runs following a poor run of form.

“This is one of our sweetest wins in the recent past. This one is right up there with any other. Getting nine wickets so quickly is outstanding. To come back into the game the way they did is brilliant. I’m a really, really proud man right now. Team showed great character and intensity,” Virat said after the match.

“As I mentioned in the past as well, we promote players who have intent. Special mention to Shikhar’s innings as well. KL as well, back among the runs. Want to back the people who we know will go out and do a selfless job. Great signs for Indian cricket. Right now we are on the right path and have a big pool of players to choose from,” he added.
