India have clinched the T20I series against England by 3-2 as they registered an emphatic win in the decider. The hosts had posted a mammoth total of 224/2 after they were asked to bat first. Captain Virat Kohli played a mind-boggling knock of 80* runs off 52 balls while opening the innings. Rohit Sharma also had a vital contribution of 64 runs off 34 balls and shared a 94-run opening partnership with Virat.
Chasing this total, England lost their first wickets very early in the form of Jason Roy who got out for a duck. Later, Jos Buttler and Dawid Malan shared a brilliant 130-run partnership to bring back the visitors in the game. However, they collapsed soon and lost the match by 36 runs.

224 – India’s total of 224/2 in the first innings was their highest against England in T20Is. This was also their fourth-highest total overall.

24 – Dawid Malan completed 1000 T20I runs in this match, and became the quickest (24 innings) to reach the milestone. He broke the record for Babar Azam who earlier completed 1000 T20I runs in 26 innings.
10 – This was Malan’s tenth fifty in the shortest format, and he created the record for reaching the tenth half-century in the least innings (24).
Big landmarks for Kohli
1502 – Virat Kohli has now scored 1502 T20I runs as a captain and surpassed Aaron Finch (1462) to become the most successful T20I batsman as a captain. Virat is also the first player to complete 1500 runs as a captain in the shortest format.
12 – This was Virat’s 12th 50+ score as a T20I captain, and he toppled Kane Williamson (11) in this regard to attain the top spot.
231 – Virat scored 231 runs in this series which included three half-centuries as well. His runs tally is the highest ever for any batsman in a bilateral T20I series with 5 or fewer matches.
80 – Virat’s score of 80 was his highest as a T20I opener. This was the first time Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma opened together for India in T20Is.
5 – India won a T20I series decider yet again with the only loss coming against New Zealand in 2019. However, under Virat Kohli India are unbeaten in series deciders and won the fifth match on the trot.
