IPL 2021: Shreyas Iyer to continue Delhi Capitals’ captaincy in the season

The countdown for the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has well and truly begun. We are just 20 days away from the cricketing carnival, and all the teams will be gearing up for the competition. And now, there is some news that has come our way regarding the Delhi Capitals DC).

News has now come in that the Delhi Capitals (DC) have confirmed that Shreyas Iyer will continue to lead the franchise in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). And, it has also been revealed that Australian legend Steve Smith will play the role of the mentor.

The DC side looks settled ahead of the 2021 IPL edition

The Delhi side bought as many as eight players in the 2021 IPL auction that was held in Chennai on 18th February 2021. They bought batting maestro Steve Smith for INR 2.2 Crores, and also pouched Indian pacer Umesh Yadav for INR 1 Crore. The Shreyas Iyer-led side also spent a whopping INR 5.25 Crores to procure the services of England pacer Tom Curran.

Sam Billings was also bought for INR 2 Crores. Apart from this, they also signed a spree of players for just INR 20 Lakhs. The 4 players who were bought for INR 20 Lakhs are Vishnu Vinod, Ripal Patel, M Siddarth, and Lukman Meriwala. The Delhi side has a number of players who can turn the fortunes of a match in a jiffy. The likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, and Ishant Sharma are match-winners in their own right.

The Delhi outfit had a highly impressive campaign in the 13th edition of the IPL. They were the finalists of the 2020 IPL edition and went down to the Mumbai Indians (MI) side in the final. It will be a thing to see how DC will start their show in the upcoming IPL edition.
