Heading into the 5th ODI, the hosts have already lost the series, and have only pride to play for. Having said that, let us take a look at the three talking points from today’s match.

Three Talking Points From Today’s Match

3. Punam Raut’s scintillating century

Punam Raut scored a magical century for the India Women in the 4th ODI against the South Africa Women. The right-hander came to the crease with the scorecard reading 17/1 and scored a valuable 104* off 123 deliveries. Her knock allowed the Indian side to put up a challenging total of 266/4 in their 50 overs. In fact, Raut has been in excellent form in this series and has scored 2 fifties and a century. She will look to continue her good run in the final rubber as well.

2. Mithali Raj crosses 7000 ODI runs

Mithali Raj continues to achieve new peaks in Women’s cricket. The right-handed batting icon became the first woman cricketer in history to breach the 7000-run barrier in the ODI format of the game. Mithali scored a patient 45 off 71 deliveries and forged a partnership of 103 runs for the third wicket with Punam Raut. Mithali has now plundered 7019 runs in the ODI format and has scored her runs at a whopping average of 50.49. In fact, no other batswoman has even crossed the 6000-run mark in ODI cricket. Surely, Mithali is in a league of her own.

1. The South African top order enjoys the Indian feast

The South African top order unleashed a brutal assault on the Indian bowlers. Each of South Africa’s top 4 batswomen scored half-centuries as the Indian outfit was left searching for answers. While Lizelee Lee scored 69 off 75 deliveries, her opening partner scored a 78-ball 53. Lara Goodall scored an unbeaten 59 at No.3, and Mignon Du Preez scored a blistering 61 off just 55 balls. It was a collective effort from the South African top order and the Mithali Raj led Indian outfit was rendered helpless by the visitors.
