The rain in the final stages of the third ODI between the India Women and the South Africa Women proved decisive as the Duckworth Lewis method had to come into play. And in the end, the visitors were declared the winners by just 6 runs and took a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

In fact, South Africa owe their incredible victory to Lizelee Lee, whose scintillating century allowed the Proteas to go across the line. On that note, let us take a look at the three major talking points from the 3rd ODI.

3. Mithali Raj becomes the second batswoman to score 10000 international runs

Mithali Raj is a legend of Women’s cricket. She made her international debut in the year 1999, and even after more than two decades at the top, the legendary Indian cricketer still has the fire and the passion to go out and score runs. And, during the third ODI against the South Africa Women, the right-hander became just the second batswoman after Charlotte Edwards to score 10000 international runs.

Mithali scored a sedate 36 off 50 deliveries, to help the Indian side post a total of 248 runs on the board. Her runs tally in international cricket currently stands at 10001. If she can score another 273 runs, she will leapfrog Edwards and become the most prolific run-scorer in the history of Women’s cricket.

2. Jhulan Goswami’s incredible spell

Jhulan Goswami shone resplendently with the white ball in her hand in the third ODI against the South African Women. The legendary pacer bowled 9 overs, gave away just 20 runs and also scalped the crucial wickets of Lara Goodall and Marizanne Kapp. Goswami gave away runs at a miserly economy rate of just 2.20 runs per over. In the three matches that she has played in this series, Goswami has picked up 8 wickets. At the age of 38, she is surely not done yet.

1. Lizelle Lee’s sizzling hundred

With her side chasing a challenging target of 249, Lizelee Lee stood up for her side. The opening batswoman scored a sizzling 132* off 131 deliveries to help her side cross the line against a potent Indian pace attack. The right-hander scored 16 fours and 2 sixes in her classy knock and helped her side post a six-run victory over the hosts and enabled them to take a 2-1 lead in the series.
