Road Safety World Series 2021: All you need to know about West Indies legends

West Indies

After a cracking start to the inaugural edition of the Road Safety World Series last year, the organisers have decided to host the remaining matches of the marquee tournament from March 5, 2021. The tournament was postponed for an indefinite time owing to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

Thus, the authorities have decided to resume the event from where they had left last year. The Road Safety World Series will run from March 5 at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur followed by two semifinals on March 17 and March 18 and the final of the marquee event on March 21, Sunday.

So far, West Indies have featured in two games where they had to face defeat from India legends by 7 wickets followed by a 6-wicket loss against South Africa legends. Coming to the league this year, West Indies have announced a 12-member squad with quite a few changes.

Full Squad: Brian Lara (captain), Tino Best (bowling all-rounder), Ridley Jacobs (wicketkeeper), Narsingh Deonarine (all-rounder), Sulieman Benn (bowler), Dinanath Ramnarine (bowler), Adam Sanford (bowling all-rounder), Carl Hooper (batting all-rounder), Dwayne Smith (all-rounder), Ryan Austin (bowler), William Perkins (wicketkeeper) and Mahendra Nagamootoo (all-rounder).

Batting Department

As far as batting is concerned, West Indies have a competent batting line-up that can actually pose some serious challenge to the opposition bowlers. While skipper Brian Lara is already there in the team, all the other players apart from three frontline bowlers are capable of contributing with the willow. From the present squad, Carl Hooper was the highest run-getter for West Indies in the last two games with 2 and 23 runs respectively under his belt.

All-rounders’ Department

The West Indies Legends have as many as six all-rounders in their squad including Tino Best, Narsingh Deonarine, Adam Sanford, Carl Hooper, Dwayne Smith, and Mahendra Nagamootoo. While Best, Sanford and Smith can chip in with a few overs of seam bowling, Deonarine, Hooper and Nagamootoo are capable of performing the duties of part-time spinners. Both Hooper and Best had picked two wickets each in the last two games while Sanford had one to his name in the only game he played against South Africa.

Bowling Department

The bowling department can be termed as lethal with three frontline spinners in the form of Sulieman Benn, Dinanath Ramnarine, and Ryan Austin. Benn is a left-arm orthodox spinner, Dinanath is a right-arm leg break and Austin is an off-spinner. Apart from the three main spinners, the squad has three pacers namely Tino Best, Adam Sanford, and Dwayne Smith. Also, there are three part-time spinners in the form of Deonarine, Hooper and Nagamootoo. With these many bowling options, West Indies can certainly excel in this department.

Wicket-Keeper Department

Ridley Jacobs and William Perkins are the two potential wicketkeeper-batsmen in the squad. Jacobs is most likely to don the gloves for the team as he had done the same in the last two games and had done decently behind as well in front of the stumps.
