IPL 2021: Three overseas cricketers who might go unsold in auction
The upcoming auction of the 2021 IPL edition is just an hour away from taking its course. Just like every year once again the fans from all over the world are extremely exhilarated to watch their favourite teams crack some enthusiastic deals. For the auctions, a total of 292 players have been chosen to go under the hammer. But as is the case in every year’s event, the auctions will filter some extraordinary names getting unsold. So let’s anticipate three such cricketers who might find repudiation.
3. Martin Guptill
Martin Guptill’s name might sound as vibrant as his performances for NZ, but the fact is the cricketer is yet to pull out a rabbit from his hat in the IPL. Often in the past, he has been constantly overlooked by the IPL teams mainly because most teams do have a set of first choice openers already at their disposal. Guptill has featured in the MI, KXIP & SRH camp before, but mostly as a backup opener. His limited proposition of only being a top-order player has always been one of the abstaining reasons regarding his absence. Also out of the limited available opportunities, the right-hander has only scored a single fifty from 13 IPL games. Another aspect where his chances of bagging get refrained is because most teams except CSK and RCB do have viable options for opening. Hence his chances of playing in the 2021 IPL do look elusive.
2. Corey Anderson
Ever since Corey Anderson broke the record for the fastest hundred in ODIs, the cricketer has always looked like a rousing proposition. But in the context of the IPL, the cricketer has always found himself lacking as per his soaring proposition. In terms of participation, Corey is well known for representing MI and has been part of the RCB and Delhi camp. In his reasonable IPL career, the all-rounder has played 30 matches and has scored 538 runs with his primary skill including three fifties. His last appearance was viewed in 2018 and since then he has been constantly overlooked. Also while playing for Barbados Tridents in the CPL 2020, the left-hander couldn’t amass enough runs while playing. Hence it would be interesting to watch if one intends to give him an IPL contract.
1. James Neesham
Jimmy Neesham’s cricketing career has always been eventful. Since his debut in 2012 for New Zealand, the all-rounder has constantly been in and out of NZ’s squad in all the three formats. But just like his above peer Martin Guptill, the cricketer is yet to produce a vigorous mark almost like Twitter tweets. Although Neesham has only played a handful number of matches in the IPL, the cricketer has been picked thrice by different IPL teams (KXIP, KKR, DD). In the 2020 IPL, he did get featured in five matches for KXIP but, couldn’t aloft high to get retained. His ability to play some interesting cameos as a lower-order batsman might allure some teams to pick him but otherwise, the all-rounder might find himself in the unsold players’ list.
