Five times Rishabh Pant’s stump mic comments went viral

Rishabh Pant

You never get a dull moment when Rishabh Pant is on the field. The 23-year-old is belligerent with the bat, and when he gets going, he makes the fans sit at the edge of their seats by playing some breath-taking shots. And, apart from his flamboyant batting, the other thing that makes Pant such a lively person is his chatter on the field. In his short Test career that has spanned just 17 Tests, there have been several incidents of Pant indulging in some hilarious moments from behind the stumps. In this article, let us take a look at 5 hilarious stump mic incidents involving the Indian wicket-keeper.

5. Pant sings “Spiderman Spiderman”

This incident took place just last month. India was in the middle of a gruelling Test match against Australia at The Gabba in Brisbane. And, in the second innings of the fourth Test, the 23-year-old Pant was in his own merry world and was seen chilling and singing ‘Spiderman Spiderman’.

And, as far as his performance is concerned, Pant played an innings that will forever be remembered by millions of Indian cricket fans. The left-hander scored a blistering 89* to allow India to thump Australia by 3 wickets. Surely, his ‘chill’ mood helped him to perform, isn’t it?

4. Pant takes a funny dig at Nathan Lyon

In his very first trip to Australia in 2018-19, Rishabh Pant was involved in several banters with the Aussie cricketers from behind the stumps. And, he had a funny go at Nathan Lyon when the off-spin bowling great came out to bat for his country. The Indian wicket-keeper asked Lyon to score a hundred for his side. He also asked Lyon not to become too serious.

In fact, Lyon seemed to have lost his cool, and even asked Pant whether he was taking a dig at him and indirectly trolling him. Indian skipper Virat Kohli could also be heard in the background, asking Pant to stay quiet.

3. Pant tells Cummins it is not easy to survive

Here is yet another incident of Rishabh Pant taking a funny jibe at an Australian bowler who came out to bat. Pant was continuously in Cummins’ ears and was clearly heard on the stump mic saying that it was not an easy task to survive.

The Indian keeper did not end it there. He also said that Cummins was not scoring off loose deliveries, and even challenged Cummins to hit a six. Surely, at the age of 19, Pant had already found a knack to rile up the Aussies.

2. Mera naam he Washington

This incident took place during the first Test between India and England at Chennai. And, this Test marks the first Test for Chennai lad Washington Sundar on home soil. When the England side was batting in the first innings, Pant came up with yet another witty one-liner.

He said in Hindi that his name was Washington, and he wanted to go to DC (District of Columbia), referring to the famous capital of the United States (USA). This line has become a rage in the cricketing world, and has left several fans in peals of laughter.

1. Pant calls Tim Paine a temporary captain

How about going on your first tour to Australia and having a go at the Australian captain himself? Well, that is exactly what Pant did in India’s tour to Australia in 2018-19. When Paine came out to bat in the Boxing Day Test match, Pant started the conversation by telling the silly point fielder that a special guest has come out to bat.

He also chided Paine, calling him a temporary captain. Incidentally, Paine had been appointed the skipper of the Australian side after Steve Smith, who was handling the captaincy duties, was banned from the sport for a year in an incident involving sandpapers. Smith was relieved of his captaincy duties, and the reins of the side were handed over to Paine. And, Pant took a dig at the Aussie skipper regarding the same.
