Muralitharan and Sangakkara appointed in the committee to revive Sri Lanka’s lost form
Sri Lanka cricket is going through some disastrous times, where they lost back to back series in the recent while. The situation of Lanka’s cricket team has angered the nation’s fans, and they are blaming authorities for this decline in form. In the same light, Sri Lanka has appointed a cricket committee of their former players, who they think can revive the team’s lost form.
Players like Aravinda de Silva, Roshan Mahanama, Kumar Sangakkara, and ace spinner Muttiah Muralitharan have been given the responsibility and have been appointed to the new committee. The news of new appointments in the committee was confirmed by the Sri Lanka cricket board on Friday. Sri Lanka lost the series in South Africa and got whitewashed by England at home recently.
Current rankings for Sri Lanka in all the formats
Sri Lanka is currently ranked 6th, 8th, and 7th in Tests, ODIs, and T20IS, respectively. The appointment of new greats in the committee might bring them a positive change in the near future. Muralitharan is the most successful bowler in the purest format of the game, and the spin wizard has 800 wickets to his name. On the other hand, Mahanama and De Silva were part of the Sri Lanka cricket team that won the World Cup in 1996.
Ace batter and wicketkeeper Sangakkara played for Sri Lanka when they bagged the World T20 in 2014 and plied his trade in two WC finals, ie 2007 and 2011(as captain). Sri Lanka faced India in the 2011 World Cup finals and suffered a defeat at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. All the former players that have been given the authority have flaunted great show and records in their times and would want them to replicate the same with the current team.
