BAN vs WI: Shakib Al Hasan ruled out of 2nd Test with thigh injury

Bangladesh is dealt with a massive blow ahead of the second Test against West Indies, starting February 11 in Dhaka. Their ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been ruled out of the Test series after sustaining an injury of his left thigh.

Shakib had suffered a left-thigh injury on the second day of the first Test in Chattogram while trying to stop a ball off his bowling with his foot. Though after the injury he continued to bowl for a while longer, he could neither bat nor bowl after leaving the field later that afternoon.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) issued an official statement regarding the fitness of Shakib. It stated that the team’s medical team will continue to monitor the all-rounder but for the time being he has been allowed to leave the bio-bubble. However, the cricket body has not announced any replacement for Shakib. An 18-member squad had been named for the two-match Test series against West Indies.

“After careful consideration it has been confirmed that he will not be available for the second Test,” read the BCB’s press statement.

Shakib was adjudged the Player of the Series in ODIs

This is Shakib’s second injury on the trot as he had suffered a groin niggle during the last ODI of the series against West Indies on January 25. After the injury, the all-rounder hadn’t featured in the rest of the game and had joined the Bangladesh contingent after regaining his fitness.

Despite the injury in the last game, Shakib was named the Player of the Series in the ODI series for his match-defining knocks. In the first ODI, he impressed with the ball, returning figures of 4 for 8. This was followed by the all-rounder showcasing his batting skills as he hammered 43 not-out and 51 runs in the second and third ODI to help Bangladesh clean-sweep the visitors 3-0.
