Former West Indies cricketer Ezra Moseley passes away in a tragic accident at 63

Ezra Moseley, the former West Indian and Barbados fast bowler, has tragically died in a road accident. He was 63 years old. The incident happened on Saturday morning on the ABC Highway while the former cricketer was riding his bicycle. He was hit by a car which caused his tragic passing away.

Ezra was one of the best fast bowlers of his era but unfortunately didn’t get to play a lot of international cricket. He managed to play only two Tests and nine ODIs for West Indies in the early 1990s. But, in the domestic cricket, he was quite a popular player. Moseley was most famous for his performances for Glamorgan in English county cricket, along with Northern Transvaal in South African domestic cricket.

Post-retirement from professional cricket, Moseley had been the chief selector for Barbados Women’s and Men’s team. He was also the assistant coach of the West Indies women’s team which won the 2016 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in India. Cricket West Indies’ director of cricket Jimmy Adams expressed his sorrow of the passing away of Ezra.

“It has come as a shock to hear of the passing of Ezra Moseley, earlier today, with the tragic news coming out of Barbados,” Adams was quoted saying by Cricbuzz. “The entire CWI family is deeply saddened. Ezra was one of our region’s premier fast bowlers from the late ’70s through the ’80s and into the early ’90s when he went on to play for the West Indies after playing professionally in the Caribbean, England and South Africa.”

Adams also expressed his condolences for Moseley’s family and recalled the achievements of the former cricketer. “After his playing days were over, Ezra continued to serve cricket in the region by coaching at the junior levels in Barbados and moving into positions with our international women’s team. On behalf of CWI I want to extend our sincere condolences to his family and let them know they are in our thoughts and prayers at this time,” Adams added.

Moseley played 76 first-class matches and had picked up 279 wickets, with an average of 23.12. Additionally, he also played 79 List A games and took 102 wickets at an average of 23.31.
