Former India batsman Vijay Manjrekar is the fifth batsman in the list. He scored 885 runs in 11 Tests against England in India. Manjrekar hit two centuries and five fifties against England at home. He also played 6 Tests in England and scored 296 more runs with the help of one century.
4. Sachin Tendulkar – 960 runs:
The most decorated batsman in the history of the game, Sachin Tendulkar is fourth in the list. The batting maestro played 15 Tests against England at home and scored 960 runs with an average of 48. He hit three centuries and five fifties in the longest format of the game against England in India. Tendulkar is the highest run-scorer in India-England overall Tests with 2,535 runs to his name.
3. Gundappa Viswanath – 1022 runs:
At number three in this list is former India batsman Gundappa Viswanath. The batting legend scored 1022 runs in 17 Tests against England at home. He averaged 36.50 against them in India and hit three centuries and as many fifties. Viswanath finished his career with 1,880 runs in 30 Tests against England.
2. Alastair Cook – 1235 runs:
Former England skipper Alastair Cook is second in this elite list. Cook was one of the very few modern-day players who managed to dominate the Indian bowlers in their own backyard. The opening batsman scored 1,235 runs in 13 Tests against India in India at an average of 51.45. He also scored 8 fifties and a century in India. Overall, he scored 2,431 Test runs against India with the help of seven centuries and nine fifties.
1. Sunil Gavaskar – 1331 runs:
Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has scored most runs in the Tests played between India and England in India. The legendary batsman scored 1,331 runs in 22 Tests against England at home. Gavaskar scored the runs at an average of 35.97 and also slammed 2 centuries and eight fifties. Overall, he finished his glittering career with an impressive 2,483 Test runs against England.
