In this edition, we will be taking a look at England’s tireless stalwart, James Anderson. Keep watching this space for a new superstar every time!

The Rise

Anderson’s childhood dream was to be a cricketer, however, it wasn’t until he turned 17 that his potential was obvious. After a growth spurt, he was one of the fastest bowlers in the Lancashire League. This soon paved the way to his first-class debut for Lancashire in 2002. In the same year, he was fast-tracked into the English ODI side. He had only played five List-A matches till that point.

Just a week before his Test debut in 2003 against Zimbabwe, Anderson became the youngest bowler from Lancashire to take a hat-trick. He then kick-started his Test career with a five-wicket haul and did not look back. He soon went on to become England’s most reliable and most successful bowler.

Career Highlights

Off The Field

Sidelined from the ODI setup since 2015, Anderson has remained a Test specialist for England in the last few years. He already has two books in his name – “Jimmy: My Story” and “Bowl. Sleep. Repeat”. While the fast bowler tends to be away from the limelight, he was involved in a controversy for shredding an image of Ravichandran Ashwin after the Mankanding row.
