IPL 2021 auction: Three teams that can sign up Glenn Maxwell

MAwell

Glenn Maxwell is a dynamic player. His T20 records are as good as it can get. He is one player who can contribute in all the three departments. With the bat, he is an explosive batsman, who plays match-defining innings. With the ball, he has the ability to tie down the batsmen and pick up crucial wickets sometimes. And in the field, he is just one of the best you can have.

At 32, the ‘big show’ has loads of T20 experience on his back and he also has leadership skills, something which he has proved while leading Kings XI Punjab before and Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League. The fact he was released from the Kings XI squad will entice several franchises to go for him during the IPL 2021 auctions. Here are 3 teams which can pick Glenn Maxwell in the IPL 2021 auctions:

3. Royal Challengers Bangalore:

RCB finished at the fourth position in the previous season of the IPL and their hopes for winning a title got delayed by yet another year. For the upcoming season, the Bengaluru-based franchise will aim to get someone in the middle order who has the ability to bat at any position, something which Maxwell is totally capable of doing. He would be a great addition to the franchise as his style of batting also suits the tracks of the home ground, M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Maxwell has even scored a T20I century at the venue. His addition to the franchise would make RCB a much more formidable team, and the big show can actually provide them with the balance which they have required for years now.

2. Chennai Super Kings

CSK didn’t have a great season during the 2020 edition of the IPL. MS Dhoni’s men had gone down badly in the previous season and would be eyeing to make a solid comeback this year. Having failed to find some stability in the middle-order, Maxwell could just be the guy Chennai would want in their line-up. The fact Stephen Fleming, coach of CSK, knows Maxwell’s game in and out from his coaching stint with Melbourne Stars, could also push his case a little further. In addition, Shane Watson’s retirement has made a void in the CSK’s top order. And guess whose highest T20I score is 145 while opening the batting? Glenn Maxwell.

1. Delhi Capitals

In the past two seasons, Delhi has emerged as a force to reckon with in the IPL. The finalists of last year have released some players, which has left them with a void. With some really good Indian batsmen in the mix, Maxwell could be a great addition to their squad, considering his three-dimensional game. Plus, he can bat anywhere they want. With more than a few openers in their mix, Delhi would want someone who can float around the batting unit and play some explosive knocks. There is no better player than Glenn Maxwell to do that. Also, coach Ricky Ponting wouldn’t mind another Aussie in the dressing room.
